New Spyder® Re-Flash Tool 2.0 Available
Posted by Bobby Palmer (Import) on 30 May 2013 12:22 PM
New Spyder® Re-Flash Tool 2.0 Available

Honeywell has released a new version of the Spyder Re-Flash Tool with a new easier to use user interface. The new Flashing Tool also includes new firmware images that significantly improve both Lon and BACnet communications.

  • Re-flash Process Enhancements

The discovery information window has been simplified to show more meaningful information to the user and the destination firmware descriptions are more clearly described and we’ve eliminated the need to browse to a folder to find the firmware images.

  • All Spyder Models Enhanced

The communication enhancements have been incorporated into all the new firmware images. Whether a Spyder is flashed forward or backward with the new firmware images, the communication enhancements will be present.  The new firmware will start shipping in all Spyders from the factory on June 3, 2013 date code 1323

  • Re-flash Only When Needed

Honeywell recommends re-flashing any Spyders that may be experiencing communication issues as the new firmware release significantly improves communications. However there is no requirement for re-flashing Spyders that are not experiencing any communications issues.  Otherwise the same rules apply for re-flashing Spyders as before.

  • Use Existing 5.X Tool without Re-flashing

Spyder Tool compatibility is NOT affected by the new firmware enhancements. Users who are currently using any version of Spyder Tool 5.x can continue to use the same version they’re currently using without the need to re-flash.  Customers who are using Spyder Tool version 4.x or earlier will still be required to flash Spyders shipping from our factory backward to maintain compatibility.

Availability

Although the factory will start shipping Spyders with the newer firmware in June, there will be a transition period in which Honeywell’s and its distribution partners’ stock of Spyders will consist of both the current and the new version of firmware as we work to update our inventory.  Honeywell will not have the ability to ship a particular version of firmware during the transition, so we cannot guarantee which version of firmware will be shipped from our warehouse during that time.

Please take the time to review the “Re-Flash Tool 2.0 How To” presentation packaged with the tool. The new tool can be found on theHoneywell Buildings Forum.

WEBs-AX™ 3.7.46 Release with Security Patch

Honeywell is pleased to announce the availability of the WEBs-AX 3.7.46 integrated software package.  This release includes the latest security patch and the core NiagaraAX® modules that were updated from the previous release of WEBs-AX 3.7.44. This release has been tested with updated versions of the Spyder, Stryker and Venom tools.

    For Users of WEBs-AX 3.7.44

Honeywell strongly recommends users of the WEBs-AX 3.7.44 release to upgrade to the WEBs-AX 3.7.46 release, which includes the security patch. This security patch does not affect any standard Niagara configuration or functionality. The only impact of the change is to remove any potential vulnerability.

The WEBs-AX 3.7.46 Software Release Bulletin has a list of all the changes made since the release of the WEBs-AX 3.7.44, as well as the changes that were made on the tools such as Spyder, Stryker and Venom.  This SRB as well as all the images of WEBs-AX 3.7.46 can be downloaded from the Buildings Forum at:

    The Buildings Forum - Home > Honeywell WEBs™ > WEBs-AX Software Releases > WEBs-AX 3.7 > WEBs-AX Software Release 3.7.46

    For Users of WEBs-AX 3.6.47

WEBs-AX 3.6.47 which was released on Oct. 12, 2012 (bulletin 12-0099) is the latest release under WEBs-AX 3.6. If you had applied the security patch in February 2013, no further action is required. For those of you who have not had the chance to update the security patch described in the February 2013 (bulletin 13-0006), please download from the Buildings Forum at:

The Buildings Forum - Home > Honeywell WEBs™ > WEBs-AX Software Releases > Software Security Patch

If your system is not at the WEBs-AX 3.6.47 release, please update to this version and then apply the security patch.

It is important that all Niagara Framework customers and system integrators review their security policies to ensure their Internet-facing systems are properly protected. We continue to recommend to all customers that Niagara Framework systems operate behind a firewall or VPN. For best practices, customers can follow the guidelines specified in the WEBs-AX Configuration & Installation Guide (63-4377) which is available on the Honeywell customer site.

Honeywell understands the importance of providing a secure software framework to its customers.  Whenever critical security issues are discovered, Honeywell is committed to taking the appropriate steps to resolve them quickly.

    WEB-403 & WEB-545 Commissioning Update
Posted by Bobby Palmer (Import) on 05 November 2012 01:16 PM
    WEB-403 & WEB-545 Commissioning Update

Honeywell is hereby notifying that until further notice all WEB-403-AX and WEB-545-AX products should not be commissioned with WEBs-AX™ 3.6 software release or greater.

The highest recommended WEBs-AX version is 3.5.39 with the new WEBs-AX 3.5 Security Patch applied (see Bulletin #12-0089). It has been found that WEBs-AX version 3.6 will cause these units to reboot unexpectedly. Though earlier versions of AX 3.5 do not exhibit the issue, we strongly recommend users upgrade any existing units to 3.5.39 with Security Patches, by following the steps outlined in Bulletin #12-0089.

To avoid reboot issues, any WEB-403-AX or a WEB-545-AX controller that is currently running WEBs-AX version 3.6 can be safely downgraded to 3.5.39 using the procedure found in the Niagara Platform Guide AX 3.6. This guide can be found in the documents folder of the installation (docs/docPlatform/docPlatform.pdf).

The restart issues DO NOT apply to other WEBs controllers running WEBs-AX 3.6 software.

We are working to resolve this issue and will send out another communication when it is completed.  We regret any issues this may have caused.

Here is a list of the affected controller part numbers:
